Saudi Post – WASEL Project

 

About the project:

The project is to execute and develop WASEL project service in the kingdom which base on using Navigation system , Tracking system (AVL) and the handheld devices (HHT) which will be all integrated with Saudi post systems such as MDMS.

 HHT will be used to read the Intelligent RF Tags which fixed inside the post boxes, all these reads will be used to run with the above systems.

 These kind of services will be wide used from the staff of SP  to achieve:

  • Improving speed delivery for any post item.
  • Using the latest technologies to get shortest distance calculation.
  • Applying the new technologies to enhance work procedures methods.
  • Applying new zip code addressing system which done and completed by SP (Zip code and parcel layers).
  • Saving time and effort for postman which will be reflected to SP entity.

 

 Project goals:

  • Using web-enabled systems.
  • Integration and customization with existing SP systems.
  • Easy to use for tracking, Monitoring and analyzing.
  • User friendly interface which enable user to select the best way to track vehicles, post items or staff.
  • Ability to work online or offline (Tracking).
  • Showing details or customized reports via any communication methods such as GPRS, SMS, RF or WiFi.

 

Project scope:

  • Mail Delivery:
    • Every postman will have HHT to deliver any mail or any post items, this delivery process will be linked to a specific geographical district.
    • Through using HHT, the postman will have evidence or proof of delivery by using electronic signature or take 2D image.
    • Also to proof deliver the mail to the desired post box the post man will use RF reader to capture the id of this box (RF Tag), this read will contain the id, date and time.
    • Using HHT the post man can register any post box defect or damage occurred by reading the RF Tag inside the desired application. This will safe a lot of money and effort in the future for any maintenance plan. 
  •  Navigation:
    • It consider as one of the main important tools used by the post man to reach customers locations.
    • Integration will be done between MDMS (Mail Delivery Management System) and this application.
    • The whole route of delivery for the trip will be loaded on HHT before the post man move from the post building.
    • This route will include geographical coordinates with ability to sort them in efficient manner.
  • Tracking:
    • The device GPS will be used also to send actual current geographical  coordinates to the tracking system ports.
    • MDMS (Mail Distribution Management System)
    • This system will handle and manage the distribution of all normal mails which coming from sorting machine in addition to other mail items(such as EMS, Register mail and outgoing mail).
    • Vehicle tracking (AVL)
    • By having the geographical coordinates(from HHT & Car GPS) and digital maps user can browse the location of the vehicle or postman in any time.

 

GPS Navigation System:

 The system designed to be installed on the HHT, also a lot of main features are considered in designing this system such as:

  • Easy to use for post man

  • Showing vehicle speed

  • Compatible with Sorting machine and MDMS

HHT:

 We use Intermec CN3 hand held , this device has many good features such as internal GPS, GSM/GPRS, Bluetooth , Wi-Fi, touch screen , barcode reader , RF reader and IP67…etc.

 Navigation system which is compatible with SP MDMS system and SP tracking system will be installed inside this device.

 A distribution route will be loaded to each device according to the plan, the postman can use this device and the installed system to find out where are his delivery locations and if he is following the planned route or not..etc.

Also the postman will use this device to read the RF tag inside the post box when he reach the delivery location, these data will be send automatically to the database when he press the RF gun by GPRS. This information will have the id , date and time of this delivery. This will enable anyone to know the status of delivery anytime.

 

MDMS Integrated with Navigation system:

 The system handle and manage the distribution of all normal mails which coming from sorting machine in addition to other mail items(such as EMS, Register mail and outgoing mail).

 The system create a distribution plan (Route) depending on Zip code and assign it to the desired postman according to territories. Also the system can make the route for either postman or distribution point (which contain several postmen), the creation will take in consideration the distance and time calculation to build up the sequence of delivery.

 The system also handle the expectations which are not fit with the automatic sorting machine by manual manner; also the system has the ability to integrate with customer service system and geographical system to ensure correct address for manual entry mail.

 The system automatically upload the route for each postman through Wi-Fi and in the same way will load the information needed from HHT to the system when the postman return back to his base so that a comparison will be imitated between the planned route and actual route. All of these features are controlled with privileged system.

 All cars information, postmen information , setting , monitoring , definition of stop time and vacation , expectations management , mail types and historical data management are taking in consideration with this system. 

  The following diagram explain the integration between MDMS, Navigation , Tracking and other SP systems.

 

Tracking Vehicle System AVL:

 We design AVL system to be compatible with CN3 HHT, as the CN3 will send automatically the geographical coordinates frequently to AVL listener, if we have these coordinates then all AVL features can be used. Also a comparison between actual route and logical route can be viewed through this system. The user can view the real vehicle location any time in addition to review historical data.
